If Grace is an Ocean

Some of you may know that I grew up in Cali. In my first 19 years of life I moved all up and down the coast.

  • Santa Maria
  • El Cajon (San Diego)
  • Pomona
  • Santa Barbara
  • Sunnyvale.

Each one of those cities, save the dreadful town that is Pomona, had a beach not more than 45 minutes away. In the awesome town of SB, I could literally ride my bike and be on the waves in 30 minutes. I started off trying to be a cool California surfer-dude, but being a soccer player all of my friends were boogie-boarders. I’m not talking white-water warriors or foam freaks, I’m talking Drop-Knee, 360’n Barrel Rollin’ fools who stuck together and could hunt in packs.

Surfers, beware. Continue Reading…

For the Generations

My grandfather passed a couple of years ago, and in honor of him I wear Hawaiian shirts on Fridays (Aloha!), and I am going to try to dedicate 1 post a year to celebrate “Apo.” This post doesn’t count, because I wanted to bring him up to explain why I do what I do here on this little space of the intarwebbernets.

Why the sudden need to feel I have to justify What I’m Sayin‘?  Continue Reading…

When It Becomes His Glory

I know a famous guy. Who doesn’t?

This guy has a pretty interesting story:

In the summer of 2003, Ryan landed a production internship with producer Younglord. He has said in interviews that he considers this 30-day internship the jump-start of his career in the music industry. Within the first week, Leslie produced the song “Keep Giving Your Love To Me” that would later be performed by Beyoncé for the Bad Boys II soundtrack. The soundtrack was supervised by Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was impressed by Leslie’s production style and offered him a management contract upon meeting him…

He watches over me

I remember the first day I met him. Given out of love, and between the 2 choices he was picked 2nd, but favored 1st. As he was being handed to me, he was wrapped uncomfortably and telling me he wanted to get out, with his eyes since he could not speak. His big, bulgy eyes. I mean, these eyes are huge and you can’t help but to stare because you’re not sure if they’re looking at you, or looking right next to you. You know what I’m talking about, don’t pretend that you don’t.
It’s ok though, by now he is used to those awkward stares. He just ignores them and keeps letting you wonder whether or not He is really looking at you, or your friend, or your coworker, or your forehead.

Eleven

I’m not going to lie, 11 years is tough to come by these days. We’ve almost gone to hell and back it seems, but have definitely strengthened our marriage by the trials we’ve been through and the perseverance we’ve shown, through the help of our family, and friends.

I wanted to finally put this on something a little more permanent, rather than pencil on paper. You may or may not remember this song from a few years ago, because when I first sang it I believe it was around midnight? Maybe Later? I really wanted to record it using our little camera, but the video editing software trial expired, so I’ll just write it (for now).

Photo strip, from not long ago...(it seems)

This is a love note to my best friend

Brought together on Valentine’s day

Never was I able to finish a song, I thank God He sent you my way

So many times I felt like giving up

I know you felt the same way too

All the pain heartache could not last

But Love is forever, when in it with you

And if there’s ever a doubt of my love for you

Just look in our child’s eye, and you’ll see it’s true

I love you now, more than ever

I need you with me, my best friend

The days we share I wish were endless

and if I could, I’d marry you again.

I love you Kim, happy 11th Anniversary.
