Kiss for Father’s Day

Dearest Kiersten,

Our first born, and favorite newest 14 year old…

I love you.

My heart quivers, whenever I think about the day we found out you were going to come into this world, and I think about all of the conversations I have had with the many people in my life, who have helped me father you the best I can. As I think about it now, I sometimes feel that I will never be the type of father I need to be, so I search, ask, and fight for truth.

When I look back at one of the best examples of a father anybody could have ever asked for, I am reminded of the many lessons in love, grace, resilience… and fight my father taught me. As you embark in this new adventure called “High School,” I want to make sure you know I am going to do everything I can, to have the same type of fight.

I will fight to earn your trust
I will fight in prayer, for your soul
I will fight for your friendships
I will fight for the tears you shed when your heart is broken
I will fight the one who breaks your heart
I will fight to convince you how beautiful you truly are inside and out
And I will fight for your heart on a daily basis.

Happy birthday, my dear Kiersten.

I know I might be a sloppy father, with a dash of crazy, but you will forever be my little Kiss… and for you I will forever fight.

Leaving Hope.
